La elección de la almohada adecuada es tan importante como la elección del colchón o la base: Puede aliviar el dolor de espalda, prevenir posturas incorrectas de cervicales, solucionar problemas de ronquidos y aliviar carencias de sueño.
En el momento de elegir nuestra almohada debemos tener en cuenta una serie de aspectos:

3. Hay que determinar qué tipo de durmiente somos. Para ello es necesario observar, cuando despertamos cada dia, la postura que hemos adoptado: de lado, boca arriba o boca abajo. Las características de nuestra almohada dependerán de cuál sea nuestra postura más frecuente:
–Si dormimos de lado : la almohada debe permitir que el cuello reste en posición horizontal y alineado con la columna vertebral. Para ello requeriremos una almohada suficientemente gruesa y firme para salvar el ancho del hombro y evitar que la cabeza quede inclinada hacia abajo.
–Si dormimos boca arriba: necesitaremos una almohada de firmeza y grosor intermedios que se adapte a la forma natural del cuello y le dé soporte.
–Si dormimos boca abajo: optaremos por almohada blanda y fina, de modo que cabeza y cuello adopten una postura natural.
–Si nos movemos mucho y cambiamos de postura: la elección más adecuada será una almohada de firmeza media.
4. Es importante comprobar la composición y las propiedades de los rellenos: fibra, visco, látex, hipoalergenicos, antiácaros…
5. Para decidir entre varias almohadas, es conveniente probarlas sobre un colchón lo mas parecido posible al que vamos a utilizar, manteniendo nuestra posición habitual al dormir. Elegiremos aquella con la que nos encontremos más comodos.
